Jan and Dean Hawaiian Shirts

Anyone see one of these in the 60s advertised as a Jan and Dean Hawaiian shirt, did the guys have a line of Hawaiian shirts like the skateboards. Doesn't look like a sixties design. $38 sold.

I'm pretty sure the Hawaiian shirts were a "Phase II" thing. They started wearing them with Papa in the 1970s. (The style may have been around in the 1960s).

When I was at Jan's house (with Gertie) just after he died, his closet was full of them. There must have been 200 in there. I pulled one out and wore it to the memorial bash at the Roxy. I still have it, a gift from Gertie.

I've never heard of an official line of J&D Hawaiin shirts.

I made 2 shirts for Jan... to thank him for the inspiration "to do a little more".
I was on disability and wasn't 'allowed' to do hardly anything. Just seeing Jan on stage gave me the courage to do a little more than I was allowed.    It took me over 5 weeks to make each of the shirts, but I did it.   Now I'm going through another challenge and remembering Jan will see me thru this too.

Years ago I bought a "Jan Bear" made of scraps of fabric from a shirt... that a gal made for him. I think her name is Debbie. It came with a picture of the shirt that matched the bear.  They are still right here near the computer.

So I know I'm not the only one to make Jan shirts.

Donna any photos of Jan wearing the ones you made for him.
I often just go straight to the discussion page. First time I really looked at the other pages. Some neat stuff.There's a photo of the girl who ran the fan club Lorri Brown and one of Elliott Kendall All the hits from surf city.
The list of J & D covers is excellent. A few missing but a lot I didn't know about.

BlackSea, I have 2 pictures (taken at the same event) of Jan wearing the first shirt I made for him. Another fan took the pictures and sent them to Maryw, she sent them to me. I was SO excited, my next trip to town I started looking for another Hawaiian print. That shirt I have a few pictures of Jan wearing it. Some I took and some were sent to me by other fans. I've been cleaning house and can't find a bunch of my stuff (it will show up eventually!), one I have is from Sheldon Castle that he took at Sycamore, NY on 8-7-99.
