This is going to be worth getting for the Beach Boys sections alone! I'll be getting it as soon as possible!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Re: Why do you enjoy Jan & Dean?
« on: February 01, 2010, 10:45:22 AM »
Of the dozen or so emails I get every other day on www.jananddean.moonfruit.com I'd say at least 70% of them are from women. I had a lovely email off the daughter of "The Little Old Lady" the other day, some great info in it.

Where are Grenacre, Mary W and the rest of the womean? C'mon girls, show yourselves"

I have a Book by ian macdonald called "Revolution in the head"...

A must-have Bible for any Beatles fan. Both The Beach Boys and Jan & Dean need a book of this standard, it's probably one of the greatest resources ever written so will be hard to top. Just something similar would be brilliant.

I'd like to see... The 70's Masters, The 80's Masters and a collection of anything else that Jan or Dean were involved in, all in excellent sound quality.

That's one thing Jan & Dean need is the entire catalogue remastered in decent quality sound, that would make me more than happy.

I also love the "Ride The Wild Surf" LP compilation (with Fantastic Baggies as final bonus track). Sadly it's not been released on CD, but the selection of tracks, mono and stereo mixes just seems perfect. It was also my very first Jan & Dean LP!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Why do you enjoy Jan & Dean?
« on: January 28, 2010, 06:31:45 AM »
This is a straight forward question. Why exactly do you enjoy listening to Jan & Dean?

The reason I ask, is for the last 30 years I have been trying to get friends, other music fans, work colleagues, and my partner to listen and enjoy Jan & Dean's music. The sad thing is, they all come up with the same reasons on why they don't enjoy the music. Jan & Dean just sound like a cheap Beach Boys imitation/tribute band, Jan & Dean sing out of tune, Jan & Dean who??? These are just some examples I have heard endless times. I just can't get people to see what I see!

I enjoy, no make that LOVE Jan & Dean for the music, the attitude, the comedy, the seriousness, the productions and for the Jan & Dean story... A story of what might have been had Jan not had his accident.  And I think it's the whole Jan & Dean story above all else why I have been such a loyal fan and friend to their legend for all these years

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Your favourite Jan & Dean Collection?

Ok, whats your favourite Jan & Dean collection, be it greatest hits or just a collection of their songs?

I think for me it now has to be the "Complete Liberty Singles Collection" in glorious mono. Everything you could ever want from the Liberty era.

THE TAMI SHOW / Jan's comments at TAMI concert.

JAN BERRY: "Ok, lets hear it for the one and only, the five and only, the real surfers... The Beach Boys"

That always struck me as a weird one. Why did Jan say "the real surfers"? Was it because The Beach Boys were so much bigger musically than Jan & Dean at the time? After all, both Jan AND Dean were surfers, and only Dennis in The Beach Boys was the real surfer there.

My favourite Dean vocal is probably "Taste Of Rain", I like Dean's vocals on all his leads actually except "Yesterday" which I find hard to listen to. I think in the doo-wop era of things Dean's leads were generally better than Jan's, and I agree that Dean had more of a vocal range than Jan.

On the live stuff, Dean can hold his own, as shown on some of those Mike & Dean concerts and of course on the live "One Summer Night" album.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Re: A Dean Biography
« on: January 14, 2010, 06:49:48 AM »
Am i the only one who wants a Dean torrence biography??Yeah theres interviews with dean, but not a Book yet,

Last time I spoke with Dean he did mention there were posabilities of a couple of things such as this happening in the future. I for one would love a biography from Dean, putting his story into the perspective of everything.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Re: Gary Usher

You may be interested to know that I am currently working on a Gary Usher and related artist website. It has input from a number of researchers other than my own research and will hopefully be the definitive Gary Usher site. We just have a little more research to do before the site is made live to the World. I hope in the future we can share any information regarding Jan & Dean and Gary Usher.

It's a brilliant interview with Dean, though I also enjoy the photos that are interspread throughout the whole thing. Well put together, informative and fun. Dean has a knack for telling great stories.

The European version of eBay, especially the UK section has never caused me any problems, and is a great place to find Jan & Dean bargains. I also find shops such as play.com and cdwow have a great selection of Jan & Dean goodies.
