DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Rock Dreams - Peelleart / Cohen
« on: September 05, 2015, 07:45:29 AM »
Great image/sketch in colour of Jan and Dean. Popular in the seventies various editions...the cover with Dylan/Morrison definitely has the Jan and Dean image.
Some other good ones and not so good ones. Other than the J & D one the John Sebastian image is quite good.
The J and D image is worth framing,

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Johnny Rivers At The Whisky a Go Go
« on: July 25, 2015, 04:28:20 AM »
Just came across this Johnny Rivers Lp on my recent visit to the record store. Jan and Dean are quoted on the back cover of the Lp.
Jan "Johnny turns Sunset Boulevard into an adult Dick Clark Show"
Dean " Right "
I listened to the record and his version of Memphis sounds a lot like the J & D version on Little Old Lady. I think the Johnny Rivers version came out first. Record manager Lou Adler engineers Howe/Linstrot.
There also mentioned and take part, from what I've read, on a Jean King live in the studio. Haven't got  a copy, still trying to track down a clean copy.
In the Simon and Garfunkel box set they also make reference to Jan and Dean rather than the Everly Brothers. I think the liner notes for Bridge Over Troubled Waters state something like   "They go all out like Jan and Dean..." ? Maybe making reference to Baby Driver track. Personally I can't hear J & D in there.
And finally Andrew Loog Oldman mentions Jan and Dean in the opening sentence for the liner notes he wrote for a Chesterfield Kings album from 2007.
Not that Jan and Dean need any confirmation of their credibility.

There's a great version of Tell'em I'm Surfin on Chesterfield Kings Surfin Rampage Double Lp from 1997. Some good covers of some surf classics not the usual all the hits type Lp. Band originates from Rochester New York.

listening to the Command Performance Lp it would be neat to hear it without the crowd noise, leaving all the J & D dialogue in.

I was trying to locate a couple of the one way releases on ebay and came accross this one. Try not to do this with your J & D records.

I've been searching for some of these J & D covers on the list. Los Gliders version of Something A Little Bit Different is on Amazon as a download, 99c.

Anyone see one of these in the 60s advertised as a Jan and Dean Hawaiian shirt, did the guys have a line of Hawaiian shirts like the skateboards. Doesn't look like a sixties design. $38 sold.

Have a read of this one. Unbelievable that Jan was able to put together something like Carnival Of Sound in the state he was in, August 67. When you read something like this it just shows Jans character.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / WVOK
« on: October 18, 2014, 09:57:34 AM »
If you go to the WVOK page there's a rare photo of Jan and Dean on stage in front of an orchestra. I think it's a radio station in the US. Something called WVOK Shower Of Stars. Tried to post the photo but wouldn't upload.
