There's a full review of the DVD in the Spring edition of ESQ, as well as Carnival Of Sound…

I'd love to see the cover. I'd love to have a copy too.

I can always put them in touch with Dean if they're interested. If anyone reissues it they should have commentary from the actors who played J&D as one option, and commentary from Dean as another.

I also have a contact at Shout. Good idea.

Jan began work on "Only A Boy," "Girl, You're Blowing My Mind," "Yakety Yak," "Stay" and "In The Still Of The Night" prior to his accident. But, and Mark Moore can clarify, The name for the album was not established yet.

The liner notes discuss this, and yes, it's clearer.

It's really cool… Kudos to Mark Moore, Andrew Sandoval and Domenic Priore and the entire Rhni Handmade group for a well-packaged product.

Steve MArtin was a writer for the Smother Brothers. I've always enjoyed the J&D comedy bits, but  Dean dismisses it as being too tired to record a real song.

I don't quite understand the comparisons of Save For A Rainy Day and Carnival Of Sound as if the two are somehow interlocked… They're not. I think it would be interesting to combine the material of the two albums -- which I'll do for fun --- and make my very own J&D 1968 album.

Jan & Dean album #1 — Save For A Rainy Day
Yellow Balloon (single version)
Girl You're BLowing My Mind
Like A Summer Rain (single version)
Raindrops
Pocket Full Of Rainbows
Louisiana Man (Dean's version with quacks)
California Lullaby
Only A Boy
In The Still Of The Night
Yakety Yak
Stay
Summertime, Summertime

Jan & Dean album #2 — Carnival Of Sound
Carnival Of Sound
Vegetables
Hawaii
I Know My Mind
Laurel And Hardy
Mullholland
Love And Hate
Snowflakes On Laughing Gravy's Whiskers
Tijuana
Louisiana Man (Jan's version)

I disagree on the different standard. Dean, like Mike Love, is about capitalizing on marketability. So I suppose he's guilty of that…

It doesn't matter whether Jan made money or not. It was a huge mistake, regardless.

Jan didn't like the re-recordings. But that shouldn't be a surprise. He couldn't even stand the re-mixes of his original productions.

Really? Then why was there "Tijuana" and "Skateboard Surfin' USA"?

I have two thoughts on this:
1) I agree that the rerecordings hurt the original material. The reason this happened in the late 1970s was because — to some degree, shape or form — the people making the "Deadman's Curve" TV movie couldn't get the rights to use the original stuff (let alone the ability to use Arnie Ginsburg's name), so Dean went and rerecorded the material. Of those songs, Dean's versions of "Teenager In Love," "Rhythm Of The Rain" and "I Only Have Eyes For You" were great!

2) Had it not been for the TV movie, the second coming of J&D would probably have never happened.

THE TAMI SHOW / Re: Jan's comments at TAMI concert.

Keep in mind most of the introductions were scripted with very little improvisation. Example: When Jan & Dean introduce James Brown & His Flames Dean's dressed up as a fireman and proceeds to discharge a fire extinguisher on Jan from head to toe. Great humor, very funny, and clearly scripted.

I'll be reviewing the Monkees set for Goldmine; it's being mailed to me this week. Also, check this out.

Check out this link for the cover of Carnival of Sound:

I'll be interviewing director Steve Binder about Jan & Dean and the Beach Boys. Lots of cool J&D screen grabs will appear in the Spring edition of ESQ, and Dean gave me a few thoughts on the show.

I promise you won't be disappointed in this release. I've been watching the advanced screener for three weeks now. Fantastic!

Unfortunately, no UK release is in Shout Factory's plans right now.

We need Lori Brown on here for sure… She's a great "chick" who seldom power shifts.
