DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Sweet Vinyl -- takes me down Memory Lane

....from that last post i made about that fun thing of finding you could purchase original vinyl albums from stores through the mail....

and my first one of "Folk 'n Roll" & the excitement of it's arrival...

to one of the NEXT learned happenings:

learning from the first concert i attended (January of 1995) that Jan would actually take TONS of time after concerts to sit at a table, selling a whole array of COOL items, visit and sign autographs!!

'n "Folk 'n Roll" was my first album I presented him with request for autographing....and his enthusiasm to TALK about it and his thoughts of it.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Sweet Vinyl

Brian Wilson's album with Love and Mercy on it was one of the last vinyl albums I bought. Late eighties or early nineties. It'a a blur.

...that thought reminded me of my introduction to a cool new thing i learned to do when i began my quest in 1994 of searching for current information on Jan & Dean and what was happening for them now (NOW being August of 1994):

I found out from issues of a super magazine, Goldmine, that a person could STILL purchase original vinyl LP's--stores advertized that they had them!!

My first:  "Folk 'n Roll"

It was so exciting when it came in the mail...like going back in time!!

(however, the first Jan & Dean album i heard was "Anthology" from 1971...it was on the shelf of our public library....August 1994...just waiting for me to listen and learn....as was, in a drawer,  a roll of microfilm, holding the famous Paul Morantz article from Rollingstone)

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / ....oh oh.......(what i'm about to post) big deal?

:)

(start out with a smile)

I guess it hurt me......

...when in the message that was said to be from Jan back in 2003 (a year before he passed)

...he is represented with:  "Nine days after my 25th birthday, I smashed my Corvette into a parked gardener's truck on a residential street in Beverly Hills.  A gardner's truck--can you believe that?  The old steering wheel sandwich, with a windshield wrap, and fiberglass on the side.  And yes, I was speeding.  Why?  Ask people who knew me, and they'll offer some wisecrack about my hell-for-leather driving.  Why?  Because that's who I was, and let's face it, God hadn't yet declared that my show (my life) was being canceled.  What else can I say?

But...in the publicizing of this message (which this is only a part), "God" was not capitalized—throughout.

Ouch!

…because (in my opinion) this gives the impression Jan did not give reverence to God.  And I had asked Mark (who wrote this with Jan) if Jan had not wanted it capitalized.   Mark said ...it was not Jan’s direction, or even discussed -- but that he, Mark,  personally does not believe it matters…if God knows what’s in your heart.

That said, ......this message was not only between Jan & God …it is a message meant to convey FOR Jan -- his insight and thoughts…from his heart directed to us / fans, friends...everyone.

Jan with his voice--spoken message, gives reverence ( thanks ) to God in his CD "Second Wave" ....
(to God up above)

When Jan prayed with me, he did so reverently.

Perhaps others would notice the un – capitalization and it may speak to them as to where Jan’s coming from; therefore, I do bring this up.

*what have i to bring this up - where Jan would be coming from with God.... it so matters to me, this detail: it's reception in people from Jan...

Even further in the message, he thanks God.  However, again, his reference to God is left uncapitalized - (making it appear like it may just have been a phrase to Jan) in that he got his act together again (thanking not only God but the others who helped him through when, in times of weakness, he had turned to poisonous chemicals and was in a downward spiral).  Whereas, i understand him to mean
  THANK You, God!!
