DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Re: Is Honolulu Lulu a surf song?
« on: May 02, 2015, 05:09:45 AM »
Yeah this one seems to get over looked. A top ten in Cashbox puts it in the top ten category. I don't think the chart positions matter. Sunrays, live for the sun always seems to make it in and that didn't do all that well in the US.There seems to be a bigger interest in Surf instrumentals these days.
This bloke seems to have the right idea.https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CA4QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.montjuichboards.com%2Fcultura_surf_eng_04.html&ei=I7lEVc-IPOOsmAWy5YDwAw&usg=AFQjCNEkL6D0lmNU-t_wPW17gC7cT2m1sw&sig2=AxkN1c-bZMRfeQco2c36wg

I think that ones from the eighties, possibly 82. Should have two songs missing from the original Lp. They did this a lot in the eighties, Capitol did the same with a lot with the early beach boys Lps.

This is the one I got off ebay. It may be their autographs from the early sixties. Still haven't worked out how to post a photo on here this will have to do. Can't confirm but Jan's signature looks a lot a different and Dean is similar to his current but the N isn't extended.

The song writing credits have been updated since. You must be looking at the original vinyl or an early Cd release.

Nice songs but the vocal is kind of annoying, don't know how to describe it but there's a bit of an irritating slur. Stopped listening to the Beach Boys ages ago. Still listen to some of the really early ones and some later Lps,Surfs Up and Light Album, on the rare occasion.

Just got back from a fishing / surfing (body) holiday. Back home, looked in the Passmore book, photos of Jan and Davy Jones pages 162 & 163, always the last place you look. These photos are quite rare I don't think I've seen any others.

Sounds like Papa Do Ron Ron, recall seeing footage of one of the guys, Randal Kirsh I think doing the vocals for Water, 78 or 79. European budget DVD of live footage from this period.

There's a photo of Jan with Davy Jones I think it's from 67. Monkees / Hendrix Tour. Jan sporting a moustache. Don't know where I saw it but its on one of the Monkees sites. Tried finding again but unsuccessful. Anyone know of the photo.
