DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Jan and Dean punk music quote by Dave Marsh
« on: December 08, 2016, 12:31:20 PM »
I am looking for information for an assignment I'm doing on punk rock. In Jan and Dean's Wikipedia page it states "according to rock critic Dave Marsh, the attitude and public persona of punk rock can be traced to Jan and Dean.[58] Certainly their early hits, recorded with myriad overdubs in a garage, and their casual and goofy stage antics were consistent with some of punk rock's ethos. and gives: "An Analytical Study", in the liners for Jan and Dean's Anthology" as the source. I don't have the Anthology album. If anyone can point me to where I can see the entry or can post it or pm it, that it would be very helpful!!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Mono and Stereo
« on: October 05, 2012, 05:46:09 PM »
Can someone tell me if the mono and stereo album mixes were done separately? I was curious as to whether the mono are just fold downs. Specifically, albums like Folk'n'Roll are hard to listen to through headphones and so, I was going to use editing software to fold them down. But only if these would be a somewhat accurate representation of the original mono album mixes.

Thanks in advance for your help!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / The Smile Sessions
« on: November 04, 2011, 10:43:38 PM »
What are everyone's thoughts on The Beach Boys' Smile Sessions?

Although a lot of comparisons between Carnival Of Sound and Smile have already been made, I, personally find it interesting that both Jan and Brian chose to work in songs of the past, ie "Louisiana Man," "Old Master Painter," etc. into their respective takes on psychedelic/progressive music.

Its truly a gift that we now have a representation of both these albums officially released!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Dean's help to free Brian
« on: July 27, 2011, 10:35:15 AM »
I was over on the Smiley Smile board today and came across a post that stated that Dean was involved in ending Landy's reign over Brian Wilson and was curious how and how much he was involved. I've never heard this before, but I do recall some type of interview with Dean talking about how difficult it was to contact Brian.

Any information would be much appreciated!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Walls

Does anyone have any information on this song, purportedly by Brian and Jan?

Brian Wilson & Jan Berry - Walls (Unreleased)

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Mid-Sixties Music
« on: March 15, 2011, 05:00:21 PM »
Has anyone ever heard what Brian Wilson thought about Jan's later 60's work such as Folk n Roll, "Norwegian Wood", and such? And any idea that Jan thought about Pet Sounds?

I'm also curious as to whether Brian was involved with Jan immediately after his accident. For instance did he visit Jan or stop into the studio at all while Jan was working on Carnival of Sound?

It would've been an amazing time if both Smile and Carnival of Sound had come out when they originally should have!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Jan's Vocals Question
« on: March 15, 2011, 04:52:18 PM »
I was just wondering how long Jan was using cocaine and during which years was he on it. And if that was the main reason for Jan's ragged vocals on Port To Paradise. Because he sounds so much better on Second Wave.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Jan & Dean's reunion concert
« on: April 28, 2010, 10:24:47 AM »
How did the reuniting of Jan & Dean happen for their first concert appearance since the accident, in terms of who contacted who about getting them back together?

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Jan's take on "Save For a Rainy Day"
« on: April 28, 2010, 10:19:29 AM »
I just watched Deadman's Curve: The Jan & Dean Story which includes Jan's initial reaction to Save For A Rainy Day.

I'm just curious if, over time, Jan warmed up at all to the record. Does anyone know if he every grew to at least appreciate it?

CARNIVAL OF SOUND / Save For A Rainy Day/Carnival of Sound Two-fer
« on: April 18, 2010, 07:43:14 PM »
This would have made an exceptional release. On a disc I put these albums back to back, as I do with all Jan & Dean albums, and the change from one to the next is incredible. To go from the beauty, but dreary songs on Save For A Rainy Day in to Carnival of Sound is something to be heard! After the "Save For A Rainy Day Theme" The intro to "Girl, You're Blowing My Mind" is like sweeping away the worries of the past and going headfirst into the future. Amazing work from both Jan and Dean.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Brian and Dean
« on: April 18, 2010, 07:26:47 PM »
I wonder if there would ever be the chance for a collaboration between Brian Wilson and Dean Torrence, even if only in concert. With Brian's diminished vocal range, Dean could sing those higher parts Brian originally covered. It would also be interesting to hear Brian covering Jan & Dean material.

CARNIVAL OF SOUND / Stereo Versions
« on: April 18, 2010, 06:50:36 PM »
Are the stereo versions included in the release the only stereo versions that were located? For example, there is no stereo version of "Laurel & Hardy" or "Yakety Yak." I specifically remember reading that there was no stereo version of "Only A Boy" prepared, but wasn't sure about the others.

CARNIVAL OF SOUND / Promo Shots
« on: April 18, 2010, 11:45:00 AM »
On the Carnival of Sound web site there are plenty of Jan Berry promo shots, but none with Dean.

Were any pictures taken during that time that show Jan and Dean together?
