Listening to some of Jan's recording studio outtakes - he was a perfectionist. I love the 3 Window Coupe outtake when he is dieting with himself. Very different from the final version. Dead Man's Curve s the obvious rework but Gonna Hustle You et al morphing into the very different New Girl is another.
I just wish we had more of Jan  in the studio - and, as I've said before, so few photos of him working. The Pop Symphony pictures - there's not much else.

Same here. Mark is doing a brilliant job in curating Jan's legacy as writer, producer, arranger and singer - as well as the reputation and importance of Jan and Dean. The Jan and Dean Record is a brilliant and serious reference book. I too am looking forward to Jan's biography in 2019.
Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year from the UK.

I love Roger's car lyrics - they are the best. I've often wondered whether one of the factors affecting the reputation of Jan's later songs is the lyrics. Jan's music was great as always but some of the lyrics were mundane and clumsy and - of course - post accident jan was reliant on other voices to find his words.

No it's Mark's way of distinguishing his new book from his last. Mark will share title soon I hope.

Hi Mark

I just wondered how the biography was going?

All the best as always from the UK.

Dean's website seems to be down. Anyone know what's happening?

Great stuff - thanks. I am sure that the wrecking crew are on her track. Great rhythm guitars and driving bass and drums. If I hadn't known otherwise I would have put it down to a Jan production.

Not replying to myself I promise.

On the same album there is a track by the Surf Bunnies - Our Surfer Boys that name checks, Jan, Dean and Brian. 'and Jimmy too!' Anyone know who Jimmy is?

A great song. Sad that we know so little about the singers / groups and the stories behind the records.

Hi All

Just downloaded an album of girl group surf songs - 'Surf Bunnies and Hot Honeys' - a lot of it is cash in stuff but there are some gems. Best of all a Susan Lynne's 'Don't Drag No More' - written by Artie Kornfeld. It is something of an answer song to Dead Man's Curve which Artie co - wrote. The song is on You Tube. I can't find any information about the singer or the song and its not mention in Artie's book. Worth a listen. Any one know anything  more? Sounds like the Wrecking Crew.

The new board looks great. Much easier to navigate especially on a mobile. Thanks Mark.

An excellent interview. This compression on CDs is a real pain. Very revealing interview and an insight into Jan's work. Thanks Mark and Rob.

Yes - fascinating that Mark had lots of information that seemed to have by passed Dean. Further confirmation that Jan was in charge at the time. How on earth he managed his studies - writing, producing, arranging, performing and all the business deals - I have no idea! What a great talent!
