DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Hollywood Eden
« on: April 08, 2021, 07:32:41 PM »
I just read Hollywood Eden. I endorse it because it gives Jan Berry the credit he deserves as a great producer and as a pioneer of the West Coast sound. The Jan and Dean Record was used as a reference. However. The author relies heavily on recollection of artists which results in a lot of BS as well. Like the whole thing about who else wrote Surf City. And the whole ďJan was an assĒ thing. But overall I enjoyed it. It got me fired up for Markís new book which I canít wait to get!!!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Dean Martin Show 1st episode
« on: February 07, 2021, 10:26:29 AM »
Jan and Dean appeared on the Dean Martin Show. 1st episode. YouTube has this full episode but Jan and Dean are not there. The other artists from that show are in this video. Any reason they cut Jan and Dean out? https://youtu.be/kcvObSdGVT4

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Fiddle Around
« on: December 29, 2020, 12:28:19 PM »
Thereís a claim on Facebook that Dean remixed Fiddle Around for the single release. Is there any information on this? The guy claiming this has said other things that I donít think are correct. But I donít know about Fiddle Around

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / LSU Pregame
« on: December 26, 2020, 05:54:43 AM »
This is a strange post. I know. But this LSU pregame song gives me chills before a game. I grew up with this song and my LSU tradition. I just read that itís arrangement happened in 1964. I canít help but wonder if the LSU band leader had Dead Mans Curve in mind when he came up with this one. Not sure Iíll ever know.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Maps
« on: July 23, 2020, 05:05:25 AM »
Mark, your level of detail is unmatched. I love the maps. I wish I would have had access to them when I was on Sunset Blvd last summer. I had no idea that I was walking around Dore records and Liberty. I'm pretty sure I went to a coffee shop that may have been Dore.

Thank you for your attention to detail and your tedious hard work. Can't wait for the new book!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Cool video

This is pretty cool. His information is not completely accurate but cool none the less. He gives Arnie full credit for writing Jennie Lee. Thatís a common mistake

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Jan and Arnie - online?
« on: May 05, 2020, 02:41:42 PM »
Something weird is going on. On Spotify only gas money is listed under Jan and Arnie. If you want to hear Jennie Lee, thatís under Jan and Dean. No other Jan and Arnie songs are available. On Amazon music, there is no Jan and Arnie. Is this on purpose?

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Jan's best album cut production
« on: November 06, 2019, 04:48:53 AM »
Just for the fun of it, I'd like to know opinions on what was Jan's best non hit production. This is really difficult because he had so many great productions on those albums. I'm going to go with Hot Stocker from the Drag City album. That's one I've been listening to a lot and the instrumental track is awesome. But tomorrow I may pick a different one, because they were all so good.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Surf City collaboration
« on: June 19, 2019, 04:34:24 AM »
Listening to Dean's interviews, past and present, one can get confused. Dean has said recently that he has no idea what Jan wrote and that he(Dean) wrote more of Surf City than Jan did. In other interviews He's stated that Brian wrote 50%, Jan wrote 35% and he wrote 15%. He's also stated that he has no idea what happened when Jan and Brian met privately, which is probably accurate. The lyrics were written in Brian's handwriting, but that does not mean that Jan wasn't sitting next to him sharing ideas. Brian and Jan have both stated that they were at a piano banging out keys and writing together. So I guess it's hard to figure out exactly what Jan wrote, but I'd assume he contributed significantly. Any thoughts?

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / 1966 concert
« on: April 09, 2019, 10:20:38 AM »
Someone posted on FB a story that he remembers a concert in April of 66. Jan and Dean with the Markets. He said only 100 people went. That surprises me. I know Jan and Dean were on a down turn right before the accident but they were only a year and a half removed from huge success and had a few top 30s in between. I guess kids had short memories back then
