it's Brian and David Sandler (the guy who worked on the Spring album with brian and the girls) and it's mostly David.

Mary--yes, Dean etched the master copy himself with an electric pencil, so that all the other copies pressed from it have it too. If you have Mark Passmore's book, there's an article in the back on J&D record etchings--they did this on a number of records--you might have some of them. Look between the end of the cut and the label. On this single, mine is from the third and final batch of pressings based on the etchings on it, according to the article.I have my man-on-the-ground in Portland looking in to it and will report back if I get any news!
11bees--According to the article, yours is from the first batch. I think you have a real rarity there! I could be wrong, but I don't think the record is an error; I don't see how both sides could be the same by accident--I wonder if it's some kind of promo that got a regular label by mistake?
11Bees, I'm truly stumped by your "double A-side" single! It doesn't seem to be mentioned in any discographies--actually I can't find anything on it anywhere. Maybe Mark or David Beard can help us on this one.Yeah, I also can't find anything about it and, at first, I thought it might be a boot since it's in amazing condition, but what a weird boot for someone to make, so now I'm pretty sure it's legit. My buddy runs a little record store in the basement of a bar called East End in Portland OR and he gave this to me before I moved across the country (to Pennsylvania) so I can't check on the run-out grooves on his other copies. Well, i guess I could e-mail him...
Sounds like your friend has a good sampling of other copies of this record. I wonder if his have all the same etchings that mine does? I found it interesting that the etchings on your copy are different. Leave it to somebody like me to get all jacked up by such small details LOL!
Yeah, when my buddy gave this to me neither one of us even noticed that it was only the one song since he has four or five copies of the color-label single and all of the others have Louisiana Man on th B-side. The only other info on the record is in the run out groove which reads; ML.7950.s, with a single letter H 180 degrees from that.I have a copy of the Like a Summer Rain single with ONLY that song (A and B sides). There doesn't seem to be any difference in the mixes (both mono), so is this just a promo (its not indicated as such)? It is on the color Jan & Dean label if that helps.
Interesting! I didn't know that one existed. Mine's on the color J & D label, too. Yours must be some kind of promo--which is strange, because that's always indicated somewhere on the label.
it has the usual J&D record Co. color logo on white background, with B&W Jan & Dean pic on the left under it. Under them it reads 'Young City Music BMI Time 2:17. On the opposite side of the spindle hole it reads J&D 402 ML-7950 prod. Dean Torrence. On the bottom; LIKE A SUMMER RAIN (G. Zekley, M. Dean) JAN and DEAN DIST. BY MAGIC LAMP with the EXACT SAME stuff on the other side. Hope that helps!Mark,
I asked this in another thread, but it also fits here, and since no one responded I thought I'd give it another go...
I own a color Jan & Dean label 45 with Like a Summer Rain on BOTH sides (rather than b/w Louisiana Man)
Same mix (original mono) on both sides, and it doesn't say anything about being a promo copy, so I was wondering if you had any info on this release? Thanks in advance!
What are the details on the label for both sides? Do they differ from the other released versions? Please post the label details here, and we'll add it to the list.
This sounds like a good question for Frank Kisko. Frank usually knows all of the "collecting" quirks.
