Hi Mark

Just touching base again. Any news on the stand alone?

Hi Mark

I just wondered how the biography was going?

All the best as always from the UK.

Dean's website seems to be down. Anyone know what's happening?

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Don't Drag No More
« on: September 07, 2018, 01:47:33 AM »
Hi All

Just downloaded an album of girl group surf songs - 'Surf Bunnies and Hot Honeys' - a lot of it is cash in stuff but there are some gems. Best of all a Susan Lynne's 'Don't Drag No More' - written by Artie Kornfeld. It is something of an answer song to Dead Man's Curve which Artie co - wrote. The song is on You Tube. I can't find any information about the singer or the song and its not mention in Artie's book. Worth a listen. Any one know anything  more? Sounds like the Wrecking Crew.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Newly designed website
« on: January 05, 2018, 04:26:26 AM »
The new design looks great. Here's looking forward to Mark's new book and - dare I hope for a box set? Been hoping for a long time now. Perhaps a digital version rather than CDs  - if that would make it more viable.

Happy new year to everyone.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year

To Jan and Dean fans across the world - Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year from the UK.

A special thanks to Mark for his remarkable book and more to look forward to in 2019 - the new Jan Berry biography and a release of Second Wave.

I wonder if there is anything else still to come?

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Dean Torrence Interview Talk Radio UK
« on: August 15, 2017, 07:11:42 AM »
Hi All

An interesting interview with Dean on UK's Talk Radio. Ian Lee has been a long time fan. I didn't know that Jan had done the string arrangement for Lullaby in the Rain from Save for a Rainy Day. Dean said that track was originally set for their film - presumably Easy Come Easy Go.
Dean continued to claim that he contributed as a writer to some songs  - unnamed - but that he has no regrets at not getting royalties. A little bit about Barbara Ann and his album covers and quite a bit on Batman. Not sure if the link will work internationally.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / waimea bay backing track
« on: May 11, 2017, 11:50:22 AM »
Hi Mark

One of the features that I most enjoyed from your video for the book was the backing track for Waimea Bay.

I know you are the busiest man in the world - now working on the new biography of Jan but you did hint that you might be wiling to share this track in the same way that you did for the backing of Honolulu Lulu.

It has to be one of Jan's great arrangements and productions. I would love to hear the complete track if that is ever possible.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas to Jan and Dean fans over the world and especially to Mark for this fantastic website and a brilliant book that finally does justice to the talents of Jan Berry. I enjoyed Dean's book too - very different - just like Jan and Dean.

Happy Christmas from the UK!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / New compilations - anyone know anything?
« on: October 31, 2016, 01:02:59 PM »
Hi All

Just picked up two new Jan and Dean compilations. Very odd track selections. Belle Wood Label: 'Hidden Insights' and 'In Icy Climes' - when I googled them the description is in Russian. Quite bizarre. Has anyone heard anything about these. Are they real? Are they a scam? Tracks are listed but no cover art or anything.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas one and all.
Peace and happiness to everyone. Thanks Mark for all you do.
The Jan and Dean Record is my new year resolution. Can't wait.

Hi All

Somewhat belatedly I have come across this book by Phil Sloan. Has anyone read it? Using Amazon's 'look inside' there was no index and the little I was able to read reflected a troubled man. I wondered if there were chapters on Jan and Dean and if it's worth buying.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Beach Boys Party Uncovered and unplugged
« on: November 26, 2015, 01:25:39 PM »
Two disc album released featuring outtakes. Only listened to bits and pieces on ITunes but three outtakes of Barbara Ann - one with some Dean dialogue
Don't know if anyone has listened to it all and found anything worth sharing.

This is one of my all time favourite album tracks and one that made me being to sense the complexity of Jan's arrangements.

Mark you kindly let us hear the Honolulu Lulu backing track (it was brilliant) and I wondered if you could do the same with the backing track for this song?
I've really enjoyed listening to the extract on the Jan and Dean Record You Tube promo. Just wondered if there was more of it!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Hey Little Freshman
« on: July 31, 2015, 11:31:59 AM »
Hi All
One of my favourite tracks from Dead Man's Curve is Hey Little Freshman. It is quite different from most other Jan and Dean tracks and has fantastic harmonies in the unusually long fade out. As so often, the lyrics belie the complexity of the arrangement and production. It was always a shame - to me at least - that Jan didn't take this approach into the next albums as I contend it is on a par with Brian Wilson's work at the time; if not somewhat in advance. I'm hoping Mark may say something about this track in the new book. For me a classic.
