DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Rip Chords/Bruce& Terry query
« on: April 08, 2015, 07:43:38 PM »
Would it be fair to say that the 1982 compilation Summer Means Fun is essentially a reissue of the Three Window Coupe album? 7 of the 12 cuts are on it minus their rendition of gas money, the fantastic baggys' big gun board, the ballad old car made in '52 and the instrumental big wednesday..

How come there are countless comps that are an exact copy of Golden Hits 2?

No I agree,, Drag City and Ride the Wild Surf were/are both solid albums while Deadmans/new girl and Lil Old Lady are contractual albums they made to back the singles with covers written by their then team of Brian, Roger, Altfeld, Gibson and the Fantastic Baggys.

Yeah but whats credited on the orig album is what matters, not 38 yrs later...so being that deadmans curve was already on the drag city, new girl the flip side and a remake from gonna hustle you, 3window coupe given to the rip chords and bgas an instrumental...the album existed as a rush-release to back the single, same goes for lil old lady from pasadena, in otherwords drag city and ride the wild surf were their only orig albums that didnt just exist to back the single, that sound better?

Wow, Salzburg, that was the most lucid, intelligent, passionate and accurate pieces i've ever read on the power and grace and grunge that was surf music. Its up there with Ian Whitcomb's Chapter Surf City in his " Rock Oddessy" book, perhaps surf needed an outsider like Englishman Whitcomb to define its raw power and esoteric atmospheric resonance.

BTW, if you're looking for a Post sixties Jan & Dean, go no further than The Dictators 1975 LP " Go Girl Crazy", even if the lp didnt contain a cover of "California Sun" and the song " I Live for Cars and Girls" the ability of the Dicks to poke fun at po faced and bloated '70s rock dupes install them as J&D's rightful successors.
Salz, well done and well said.
that first dictators album is great! Same w the barracudas drop out, the surfin lungs big time!

Being that J&D were mostly a singles act the only all-the-way-thru orig albums were Drag City and Ride the Wild Surf; take linda surfin and surf city were just covers packaged with the hit single and same can be said with the deadmans/new girl album and the little old lady from pasadena, unless ya count the cuts written by brian, christian, altfeld, gibson and the fantastic baggys to have been written for them...¿?

SINGLES / Re: 1964 — Liberty

"Restored credit as of 2002" what does that mean? Same with the error of which songs Jan co.wrote on the Deadmans Curve/new girl in school album...the site says ten but the orig record says four and that includes the reissued single.

Little deuce coupe is killer, very underrated. Two thirds of new material but still great great cuts. J&d made four solid albums in 63/4 that sum up their output but w the BBs outta their two dozen albums half of em are phenomenal and NO other group in history had more than a few substantial albums.

Incorrect, the only tracks Jan cowrote were Deadmans curve, 3window coupe, Bgas rickshaw, new girl in school. Thats what the record says.
