early influence
« on: June 02, 2015, 02:06:33 PM »
I know that sometimes I ask questions that aren't very interesting to some, but I'd like your opinions if possible. Obviously, Baby Talk and Heart and Soul influenced the Beach Boy's Surfin. Mike Love has said that on many occasions. When I listen to other Beach Boy songs like Help Me Rhonda, God Only Knows and Good Vibrations, it appears that the bah bahs on those songs could've been influenced by Baby Talk as well. Mike Love was a huge early Jan & Dean fan, so it would
make sense that he came up with that part of those songs. Has it ever been said that those songs were also somewhat influenced by early J&D?

Sorry, maybe I'm really loosing it in my 'old age', but as I 'REMEMBER', Baby Talk ('59) and Heart and Soul ('61) came out long before the Beach Boys first hit.  How could the Beach Boys Surfin' have influenced Jan & Dean there?

Yes Donna that's what I wrote.  Jan and Dean's early records influenced Surfin. Apparently Jan and Arnie as well

Oops, is my face red. I totally misunderstood... I thought you meant it the other way, the BB were influencing J&D. Sorry... I think I'd better continue to just sit back and read... and get back to my rocking chair!
