Saw Dean at the VIP of Jan & Dean and the Surf City Allstars this evening. Dean signed my "Save For A Rainy Day " album, "Surfs Up. Dean". He also signed my sons guitar and for my other son he signed a 1957 Chieftain, the yearbook from University High on page 95 where Dean is pictured with the football team. Dean is very kind and witty. Great guy!
The concert had three Jan & Dean songs for every fifteen Beach Boy song. The Beach Boys songs just didn't stop coming the whole evening. I was very sad about that aspect of the concert but it was still great to attend and see Dean perform on stage. This concert was a big contrast to seeing Jan & Dean in 1980 when all but one of the songs was a Jan & Dean song, Barbabra Ann. I understand the band feels they have to entertain the masses but the Jan & Dean music is very diluted. The average age of the crowd was about 65 years old and Dean made jokes about Viagra and walkers during the concert. I questioned a few of the people there and they were not really up on Jan & Dean at all. It was just a night out for them. So there you have it. My night in nutshell. Surf's Up!
