Girl you're blowing my mind 1968 single version question.
« on: August 23, 2014, 09:42:16 AM »
I was wondering why the reason the single version from 1968 and 2010 versions are so much different? The 1968 version has the brass section to it and is token out in the 2010 version. I know the 2010 carnival of sound was going to  sound as close as possible as what it was going to sound like if it was released. Did Jan change the way he wanted it to sound since he released it as a single or did you guys change it a touch to try to make it sound better and clearer? I love both versions for there own reasons but the single version in my opinion sounds more like what there 1965 and 66 sounded like with the brass section but then 2010 version is so clear and flawless!

Here is a link to the 1968 girl you're blowing my mind for who ever has not heard it yet.

Jan made quite a few different versions of the song. The one on the 2010 disc was one of producer Andrew Sandoval's favorites.

The disc label in that video is a fake, showing an incorrect songwriting credit.

Yeah i knew Jan did quite a few versions the 1968 version is what i believe to be the same verson on the 2010 album but with a brass sectionon top of it all. is that correct?

Does anyone know if Jan had a favorite version?

I heard there was even a bootleg of nothing but different versions of "Girl You're Blowing..."  I have a boot CD somewhere with 4 or 5 versions...my favorite (of the one's I've heard) is on there, but it doesn't quite match either Kann's version or the Carnival version.

Burton, that's the one I've been looking for. Less is more in the case of that song. That's the best version.

Yeah well that's the first time I heard the song on the Oddities Lp. Mine was the picture disc version with no information and no bonus disc, round 82. Always liked the song and for a long time there I always thought Jan was doing the lead vocal until the late 80s. They both got a similar tone in their voices. After hearing the three versions on the 2010 release this one sounds a little empty. I like all the effects, they add to the song.
There's been some negative reviews on the album in regards to the effects used , that is sounds coming out of nowhere but I think they're done well,
nothing's buried it's all nice and clear the way it should be . I think I like the first version track 1 then Jans final mix followed by the stereo mix.
I got the deluxe release, anyone know if there's anything different on the cd only release.

The oddities versions ok but the one to listen to is the stereo version track 16. Listen to with head phones...vocals in the middle sound effects alternating from left to right. I like all the stereo takes.
Until next time
Wally Cd is same as cd in vinyl/cd release.
8 years to work out Glen Campbell did the vocals J & D for beginners.

That's right if it's not on the record sleeve I won't no about it. Not into fan clubs fan zines back then and even now.
Yeah I had another listen to the stereo versions with the headphones sounds better than the mono tracks.
There's still some speculation as to who sang what just read the booklet.
I don't think they maintained accurate session records.
It was good to see the COS wrapped up in this package another one down. Now the Jan Berry 70s recordings need to be packaged.
