Sundazed have messed up again Jan & Dean Sound Lp
« on: July 30, 2014, 09:58:19 AM »
People Sundazed have done it again, they've stuffed up another Jan & Dean classic, The Jan And Dean Sound Lp released 1996 on Sundazed.
Until recently I had one copy of this Lp that being a pirate copy manufactured in France, 1978. The album is an exact duplicate no mention of it being made in France, minus the picture insert. I can't confirm this but it's definitely not the 1960 original. The sound is excellent high fidelity the echo nice and crisp the way it should be.
In the last couple of days I came across a mint sealed copy of this Lp, Sundazed issue. Great packaging but the sound quality was flat no fidelity lacked the echo that these songs are known for. I played the pirate copy straight after and noticed the difference immediately. I can't understand how a pirate copy made in 78 can sound a great deal better than a release from a company who claims to pride itself on its sound quality.
People don't buy anything Jan and Dean related from Sundazed, they've got no idea about the Jan and Dean sound and what's expected.
I've recently ordered a Cd on Amazon that covers all the Dore recordings and the reviews in regards to sound quality are excellent.

Wally I got SFARD off Amazon Japanese mini lp Cd. I've had it for a couple of days not much difference in the sound quality between it and the Sundazed copy. You must have super hearing or something ??????
Until next time, if there's a way it's always one way.

There's a thirty percent increase in the sound quality. Play it on a proper stereo not on your pc. Crank up the volume you'll find that the sundazed copy will start falling apart the Jap version will hold. You gotta play these J & D records at high volume to appreciate the production.  There's no point listening on low , these records aren't muzak.
The Jap pressings been remastered and engineered by one of the best in the business Yoshiro Kuzumaki.
One Way, I had a listen to YRKHTHAG , bit of volume and it started to fall apart.
I rest my case.

Just had a look at Amazon all six Japanese releases are on Amazon new. I've ordered all six. If there's no difference in the sound quality compared to what I've already got, you will be billed Wally.
Slight difference between Sundazed and Japan release of SFARD, I wouldn't call it 30 %.
Until next time

Wally your copy of 101 can't be the French copy if its an exact duplicate. The French copy had a dark blue label. If its got a thin cover light blue label it would more than likely be an 80s copy. When did you buy it?

Until next time , I wish I had bionic hearing like you.

You're right I wouldn't call it a 30% improvement it's more like a 33% increase in sound quality.
Had a look at some web pages. 101 was re released by Dore in the early eighties exact duplicate of original that's why it sounds good. I got a copy of Baby Talk with the 70s Dore label. Have a look at this page for different labels over the years.

.
And people don't forget to get your copy of the new Bamboo Trading Company Cd.

Just had a listen to Surf City Toshiba no difference the C5 copy sounds better. These early Jan and Dean records should not be released in stereo. The pre Drag City Lps sound best in mono.
Until next time you owe me some cold hard cash

They do sound a lot better in mono but these are the best stereo pressings available. Jan and Dean take Brian Surfings got some of the original mono versions, EMI Japan. You've done yourself a favour.  C5 you got to be joking.

Just had a listen to Drag City EMI Toshiba. The right sides got all the lead vocals left side got all harmony backup vocals with orchestrations and other instruments. In the middle there's the drums bass and rhythm guitar. The problem is the drums are so loud that they drown out the lead vocal.
I compared this to the original Japanese vinyl from the early eighties same deal with the mix but the drums are at  an equal level with everything else. That's the difference. If you like tuning into the drums these are the CDs to get. I must admit some mighty fine drumming.
Until next time stick to vinyl.

I totally disagree. The levels are perfect. Finally we have CDs that highlight the great drumming on these records. The lead vocal is perfect.
I rest my case.
