Arnie Ginsburg Interview
« on: February 17, 2014, 05:03:53 PM »
If anyone's interested there is an interview with Arnie Ginsburg on line April /  May
1979  - Time Barrier Express - Stuart Hershey. Just google Arnie Ginsberg Stuart Hershey and the article will come up. This is the full telephone interview. There are portions of the interview in the Stephen McParland Book but this is the full version. Appears to be a humble sort of guy and gives an explanation of why he didnt want to be involved in the movie.  He doesn't appear to be bitter and doesn't appear to be phased at all by the success Jan and Dean had following his departure. I like all the Jan and Dean catalogue but my favourite periods are the Arwin Jan and Arnie recordings and the Dore Jan and Dean recordings. Have a read even if your a strictly J&D fan.

I've always loved that interview . . . pretty much lays it bare.

Yeah, Dean and Arnie attended USC at the same time, in the design and architecture program . . . all through J&D's success. Arnie didn't miss it a bit.

Jan, Arnie, and Dean attended the 1980 reunion of The Barons at Jan's house . . . even though Dean was never actually a member of the Hi-Y school club. Jan named his singing group after the school club, but they were not the same thing.

Gotta love the picture of actor James Brolin (Jim Bruderlin) . . . The controversial and hugely successful film The Amityville Horror had just been released the previous July (1979) with Brolin in the starring role of George Lutz.

People who are in the Hi-Y school group Barons photo include Jan Berry, Jim Bruderlin (actor James Brolin), Arnie Ginsburg, Wally Yagi, John Seligman, Barry Keenan, and Joe Amsler (the latter two of Frank Sinatra Jr. kidnapping fame).

I think the bloke in one of the color photos, white shirt next to the photo of the bloke skulling the bottle may be a tv actor. I think he had his own tv show something called Eieshied.

Nope, just looked it up not the same bloke.

Hey just been browsing on the net for more Arnie info. Last place I'd go to would be Wikipedia but wound up on the Jan and Dean page. It's pretty good for Wikipedia page, there's even a patent number for some of the things he's designed.
I think I know why the people think Arnies on the Alan Hunt songs, they're on the page. Lol .
Bit unusual it looks like it gets updated regularly. Got no idea how Wikipedia works but whoever updates it has listed pretty much all the surf drag writers as references. People probably read the last section and probably think everything's ok on this page.
Sorry Mark but whom Evers responsible for the page has listed your name to and just about everyone else. Not holding you responsible now.LOL
A lot of the guys in the barons I've noticed have moved onto bigger and better things don't know all the names but just looking on the net they're all career minded people. Can't recall but read somewhere that Keenan after being released from prison made it, that is financially.
I'm beginning to sound like a crazed Fan Boy. LOL
Until next time get yourself some Ginsburg furniture.

Wikipedia is pretty much a lost cause. It can be changed at any time by any hack who wants to change it. So the info is not always reliable.

A Jan & Don Altfeld composition Cherish My Love recorded by Jan and Arnie, no known copy to exist was recorded by a doo wop group the Glens in 1960 released on the Laitini label and then again on the Sudden lable in 1961. Single b/w a little less talk. Dont know how they came accross the songbut the group have a long history with various name changes and personal. As The Individuals (previous group name for the glens) they backed jan and arnie vocally on stage a couple of years earlier. If you wannahave a listen to the glens version its on youtube, for all the serious record collectors. lol.
