A Jan & Don Altfeld composition Cherish My Love recorded by Jan and Arnie, no known copy to exist was recorded by a doo wop group the Glens in 1960 released on the Laitini label and then again on the Sudden lable in 1961. Single b/w a little less talk. Dont know how they came accross the songbut the group have a long history with various name changes and personal. As The Individuals (previous group name for the glens) they backed jan and arnie vocally on stage a couple of years earlier. If you wannahave a listen to the glens version its on youtube, for all the serious record collectors. lol.

Yeah, the Laitini disc misidentified the publisher as "Dayton" . . . It should be Daywin.

In regards to my previous post the Individuals actually backed Jan And Dean on Stage in 1959 other person on the bill was Rick Nelson.
Both the Glens and the Individuals are off shoots or linked to vocal band the Feathers as I stated before numerous changes in Personal and names.

Does anyone know if Arnies, Rituals single Girl In Zanzibar / Guitarro was released for the public. All the images of the 45 I've seen have got "Promotion Copy" on the label. Arnie stated "It really didn't get out" in one of his interviews. Last time it was up for sale on eBay was 2010. I've checked a some of the Bruce Johnston rarities  CDs but these only have the Kim Fowley produced Rituals sides. Anyone know of any web sights with a download or purchase.

Ha ha ha lol. Yep talkin about record labels and release dates and other third party links can be boring. But remember Jan and Arnie started the ball rolling. They're great songs and lets acknowledge Jan And Arnie and Joe Lubin's efforts here. They stand up to any other Doo wop recordings of the time. Both there voices work really well off each other. Classic recordings. Just listen to the KJAN recordings fun times and entertaining. Jan and Arnie the originals made it happen out of a garage. There's enough here for an Lp.  If you wanna move on to a more interesting thread try the Turn, Turn, Turn thread Ha ha ha lol.

Yeah ...ya got me there, I will say.  That Turn, Turn, Turn was a failure of a thread

But I didn't even realize that fantastic song was written by that artist who had recently passed on.  I LOVED Jan and Dean's version, and had even made that You Tube using it!

I like that video Turn Turn Turn. Jan & Dean did a great cover and Mary did a great video.
But I certainly agree with Blacksea- Jan & Arnie were the real meat of the garage sound. The six song EP is a great listen when I'm in the mood for the rockin garage 50's sound. Those 6 songs were all co-written by Jan Berry. All those Hollywood High super stars did great, but Jan was the first! Jan & Arnie hit before Phil Spector, Bruce Johnston, the Beach Boys, Kim Fowler, etc. Not bad.

Back to JD's words ...Jan & Arnie were the real meat of the garage sound ...why so "Jan and Arnie"?  Though they may have the most writing credit for Jenny Lee and the other songs (and Jan & Arnie continued to work together in the garage after Jenny Lee ...let's not forget Dean and some of the other guys did ALOT of the work in the beginning in the garage TOO!  PLUS ... in my opinion ...Jan and Dean's version of "Jennie Lee" is ever so much better and i LOVE it alot which came out on their Golden Hits album.  Oh!, but Dean put Jenny Lee (J&A) on "Anthology", right?

The zzzzzz I think 1wally1 was referring to my Nash the Slash entry. J & D for beginners that was aimed at Wallys Frosty the snowman thread, I think he was stating the obvious there everyone knows it didn't chart.
I don't wanna be one of the guys that gets on Deans case here but I don't think he had too much to do with the garage sessions. The credit here has to go to Jan and Arnie and Don Altfeld for those sessions. I'm not saying Dean wasn't around early on but as far as the recordings go I doubt that he was on anything with the possible exception of There in the Night.  He was obviously friends with Dean but he was tight with Arnie at that time and Don was his right hand man. And obviously Joe Lubin for his production efforts.
I don't even think the names credited,  as being involved  in the There in the Night
 Recording are accurate either. There's just not that many voices that can be heard on the song.
In regards to my Nash the Slash entry I just wanted to point out that a Jan and Dean song made the charts in the 80s.

Dean did put the original Jennie Lee on Anthology. That was a good move and I'm thankful for that.

Certainly not for Jan & Arnie; but Jan also did the earliest Jan & Dean stuff in his garage studio. The best example of the R&B transition from Jan & Arnie to Jan & Dean is "Jeanette, Get Your Hair Done." It's raw, like the Arwin sides.

Jan spliced "Baby Talk" together in his garage; and is was augmented by professional session players. A more mellow sound.

Yeah I like the rough sound on the Jan and Arnie 45s.
I've managed to track down a copy of Arnies Rituals 45 Girl In Zanzibar/Guitarro. Cost me an arm and leg but I've finally got it.
I'll post it up on YouTube when it comes thru in the next couple of weeks so anyone who's interested can listen and download.
