Picked up an original 1967 copy of Save For A Rainy Day LP in Mono, JD-101.  Anyone know how many of these were made?

Very cool album . . .

The JD-101 Mono album dates from late 1966, and was self-released by Dean on his J&D Record Co. label. Unfortunately, that endeavor was shut down by Screen Gems.

Dean's 1967 Columbia (stereo) version of the album was also scuttled by Screen Gems.  Both cancellations were a result of Jan Berry's and J&D's pre-existing (pre-accident) contracts with the company.

That's why none of Dean's post-accident releases ever saw the light of day, from a national perspective. He didn't have the legal authority to release the material using the "Jan & Dean" name.

As a result, Dean had to come up with a completely new name The Laughing Gravy for his 1967 release of "Vegetables" (on the White Whale label). That release also went nowhere.

For a long time, Dean had a big stash of his JD-101 Mono copies of Save For A Rainy Day in his private collection. I have no idea how many are left.

But no matter what, you need to get a copy. It's a must-have.
