The song "Surf City" was written by Jan Berry and Brian Wilson. The first draft of the song, with the title "Goody Connie Won't You Come Back Home" was written by Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys). He gave it to Jan Berry and Dean Torrence (Jan & Dean) who finished the recording it with Brian Wilson. Although, Dean Torrence contributed several phrases to the song, he never insisted that he be given a credit. The single was released on June 15, 1963, and it was a #1 hit record in July 1963 for two weeks.
