Very sorry to hear it. Gary's dad helped make history in World War II.

The Doolittle Raid (April 1942) was the first strike on the Japanese homeland after the bombing of Pearl Harbor (December 1941) . . . a daring but costly effort by American aviators. The damage they inflicted on Tokyo was minimal, but the morale boost on the home front was huge.

Three years later, Japan paid a terrible price for its aggression in the Pacific, and for its alliance with Nazi Germany.

Thank you, Lt. Griffin . . . and to all other World War II veterans.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Griffin's passing, too.

The Doolittle Raid was indeed daring--Army B-25 medium bombers, laden with fuel and ordnance, taking off from the USS Hornet in Japanese-controlled waters, with a runway of less than 500 feet for the lead planes!   My hat's off to all the brave flyers who undertook this very dangerous mission.
