You Came a Long Way from St Louis is the best cover on that album, in my opinion. I love that song. Jan & Dean did a great job with it.

Yeah, there are some good covers on the Surf City LP.

Agree 100%. Thing is, most of the covers on Surf City (except for Manhatten) I first heard on that LP. So, for me, the lyric SHOULD be "Sting Rays and Caddies".

This has prompted me to listen to a few other versions of "You've Come A Long Way From St. Louis" on Youtube today, and what really strikes me is how modern/contemporary the J&D version is compared to other recordings, some of which are excellent on their own way, but do sound dated. It reminded me just how experimental and groundbreaking Jan's productions were even on the less known tracks.

And great drumming too. The rhythm section across this album is brilliant and stands it apart. Fantastic production.

I agree with all these choices--Surfin' Wild and Waimea Bay have always been favorites of mine.  The drumming and rhythm tracks are a particular strong point on all of Jan & Dean's '60s songs. 

I wonder what would have happened chart-wise had they decided to release The New Girl In School and Dead Man's Curve as separate singles instead of pairing them together on one record?

So good to see Ripplewine on here again....

During my wonderful trip to South Carolina and Virginia....i listened to many of my records and actually found ANOTHER favorite!!, which i must admit I hadn't ever listened to much...and now I LOVE "Sunshine Music" from "Gotta Take That One Last Ride" album (not the great DVD)...."Sunshine Music" is SOOOO GOOD!!!!!!  :)

I was listening to some J&D today [found my ipod] And when I heard this I thought this song should have been re released in the 70's when that 50's nostalgia was going strong . Had a great guitar intro. And would've brought back memories of American Bandstand.
