Jan Berry productions on youtube
« on: March 06, 2011, 03:39:39 AM »
Hey guys, I think it would be cool if we have a thread that contains youtube (etc.)-links to stuff that Jan produced outside of Jan&Dean. I guess it would be a little too much to post that in the youtube-thread we already have. In this thread we could also post songs that inspired Jan for his work but on which he didn't do anything. For example I think the Angels' "I adore him" inspired his arrangement on "I found a girl" but I never heard it and couldn't find it on youtube. Anyway I guess you understand what this thread is about. Hope to hear some interesting stuff

THE MATADORS

THE ANGELS

I Adore Him — The Angels — Smash (1963)
(Jan Berry - Artie Kornfeld)

Here's a quote from the liner notes I wrote for the Jan Berry Tribute album (referencing "I Found A Girl") . . . "Jan's sunshine folk arrangement for this P. F. Sloan composition features a guitar and percussion motif influenced by an earlier Top-30 hit Jan had co-written with Artie Kornfeld — 'I Adore Him' by the Angels."

THE SINNERS . . . aka THE MATADORS . . . aka TONY, VIC & MANUEL

Tony Minichiello, Vic Diaz, and Manuel Sanchez . . . with Sam Riddle.

The house band for Hollywood A Go Go (KHJ-TV, Los Angeles)

A great look at Jan & Dean's harmony singers for the Surf City and Drag City Lps . . . and part of the Dead Man's Curve LP.

La Virgen De La Macarena

Traditional bullfighter's theme . . . A different arrangement for the opening of this song served as Jan & Dean's classic play-on for live concerts in the '60s. You can hear it on Command Performance, and on the original version of Filet of Soul.

Thanks ! That's stuff I had hoped for. Some "new" songs for me and very interesting to listen to. I think Jan's role in white Doo-wop is very underrated because the California-sound songs are so heavy.
I hope there will be something like "Pet Projects : The Brian Wilson productions"  for Jan one days. Mark, what do you think would be the chances for this?

BTW, while we're at it, what was the most succesful production Jan did outside Jan & Dean ?
