Dean's Solo Recordings
« on: July 11, 2010, 08:27:02 PM »
Hi
I want to know what Dean recorded and released solo (or using Jan and Dean's name), and where I can found all tracks.
I'm a bit confused.
Thanks
Cheers
Alan

Thanks Mark!
Where I can found these tracks? What cds?
He released solo albums or had side projects after the eighties? Or simply recording exclusive tracks for certain releases?
I'm asking because I want to purchase it.
Thanks
Alan

Dean's series of wholesale re-recordings -- released and marketed as "Jan & Dean" -- began in 1977.

You can easily find these releases for sale on the Web. Same for Dean's other compilations. Between Amazon and e-Bay, you should have no trouble.

Mark,
I asked this in another thread, but it also fits here, and since no one responded I thought I'd give it another go...
I own a color Jan & Dean label 45 with Like a Summer Rain on BOTH sides (rather than b/w Louisiana Man)
Same mix (original mono) on both sides, and it doesn't say anything about being a promo copy, so I was wondering if you had any info on this release? Thanks in advance!

What are the details on the label for both sides? Do they differ from the other released versions? Please post the label details here, and we'll add it to the list.

This sounds like a good question for Frank Kisko. Frank usually knows all of the "collecting" quirks.

it has the usual J&D record Co. color logo on white background, with B&W Jan & Dean pic  on the left under it. Under them it reads 'Young City Music BMI Time 2:17. On the opposite side of the spindle hole it reads J&D 402 ML-7950 prod. Dean Torrence. On the bottom; LIKE A SUMMER RAIN (G. Zekley, M. Dean) JAN and DEAN DIST. BY MAGIC LAMP with the EXACT SAME stuff on the other side. Hope that helps!

Hi Mark.
Thanks!
Where I can found the Dean's version of Lousiana Man on cd, and Mike and Dean recordings?

I've never seen a double-sided one like that -- but then I'm not an in-depth vinyl collector.

Nevertheless, I do have an anomaly in my collection. On my copy of the Golden Hits Vol. 2 LP (1965), the front cover indicates LST-7417 (Visual Sound Stereo) . . . and the vinyl is stereo . . . but the back cover indicates the mono version (LRP-3417 -- "also available in stereo" -- which is backwards).

That one stumped Frankie the K.

I know this is a bit of a hijack, but I have a lot of old rare vinyl releases, and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a good one-stop place to get an idea of what they're worth nowadays. Not that I really want to part with them (and they probably haven't appreciated that much, given that there don't seem to be that many of us!), but I'm curious.

Thanks in advance.
