I love the music of Jan & Dean for the vibe, the feeling...it is an absolute tonic for any kind of gloom. Really, it is nearly impossible to stay in a 'down' mood with a Jan & Dean record playing.  That's in addition to great vocal and instrumental arrangements, the melodies and everything else that makes just about any Jan & Dean record a fun and enjoyable listen. Even the album cover art on each of the 60s Liberty albums and picture sleeve from the 45s says "fun"! Just look at those vibrant colors. I don't know how much Jan or Dean had to do with that, but it fits the overall presentation. When I was a kid, I had entire bedroom wall plastered with J&D album covers...

Well put!  You've described the same feelings I get from listening to Jan & Dean. They had a unique way of injecting fun, excitement, and humor into their music all at the same time.  On top of that, the production of their songs was top-quality--and they were complemented by the full range of instruments; everything from guitars & drums to brass and woodwinds. And all this was done in a way that adds to the energy of their vocals.  I'm amazed by how they did all this while being full-time college students!

According to Dean, they didn't have any input into their album covers until around late 1965--Dean designed the "Jan & Dean" logo that was used on the covers of their albums from Folk n' Roll through Golden Hits Vol. 3; he penned the liner notes for these as well.

We need Lori Brown on here for sure… She's a great "chick" who seldom power shifts.

What ever happened to Lori and surfun, and also Doc Rock kelly,

Yes, I noticed the Surfun site was down a while back.  I haven't seen posts from Doc Rock in a while, either.

Hi!
I have been a J&D fan since...my earliest memories. I think I love their stuff so much now because it is evocative of a simpler, happier time. At THAT time it was very soothing to me. BTW, hi Robh. KarenL is now Kalena1980   :)
