Mary--yes, Dean etched the master copy himself with an electric pencil, so that all the other copies pressed from it have it too.  If you have Mark Passmore's book, there's an article in the back on J&D record etchings--they did this on a number of records--you might have some of them. Look between the end of the cut and the label.  On this single, mine is from the third and final batch of pressings based on the etchings on it, according to the article.

11bees--According to the article, yours is from the first batch.  I think you have a real rarity there!  I could be wrong, but I don't think the record is an error;  I don't see how both sides could be the same by accident--I wonder if it's some kind of promo that got a regular label by mistake?
I have my man-on-the-ground in Portland looking in to it and will report back if I get any news!
