"Louisiana Man" produced by Jan Berry — (Pre-Accident)

Jan produced the track, but not the finished product. Dean gave him the credit. Rightly so.

George Tipton collaborated with Jan as an anrranger beginning with Pop Symphony in 1965.

George isn't credited as an arranger on the '65 single label for "I Can't Wait To Love You," but he shared arranging credited on the album from which the song was taken — Folk 'n Roll.

Jan bounced everything off George after Pop Symphony.

Jan didn't "need help all of a sudden" . . . from a strictly musical standpoint.

George and Jan became friends, and developed a great working relationship. It was also a time when Jan was heavily immersed in his second year of medical school . . . while simultaneously dealing with extra film and television commitments like Easy Come, Easy Go, and On the Run.

Thanks Mark. Whenever I see someone's name on a Jan & Dean record, I'm curious about what they contributed. I know Jan was always the leader, but was curious about what George contributed to the 2 or 3 albums his name is on.

I have the Liberty single (Liberty 201255) Norwegian Wood/A Beginning From An End which was released over here in Europe in 1966. The A-Side is Norwegian Wood, and is mono and the version that starts with Jan saying "Norway". Is there a chance that this version will ever be released officially on CD? I was disappointed that on the "Complete Liberty Singles Collection" that they used the much inferior version of Norwegian Wood.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they didn't use the "Norway" version--I like that one better, too.  I'd love to find a copy of the European single that you have.  I did, however, manage to find a mint "Like A Summer Rain"/"Louisiana Man" single on the J & D Records label on eBay a while back--I'd like to find out how many copies of it were pressed.

I have a copy of the Like a Summer Rain single with ONLY that song (A and B sides). There doesn't seem to be any difference in the mixes (both mono), so is this just a promo (its not indicated as such)? It is on the color Jan & Dean label if that helps.

Interesting! I didn't know that one existed.  Mine's on the color J & D label, too.  Yours must be some kind of promo--which is strange, because that's always indicated somewhere on the label.

Wow...this is such an interesting thread.  I have never seen any of those 45's.... besides the pictured ones here....11bees is saying he has a single of "Like a Summer Rain" that isn't one of those?

It never registered ...and i never paid attention to the details about what Dean did that summer  of 1966....releasing those singles, I mean.

I just heard him talking about "Louisianna Man" on the Endless Sky dvd....and that was really really special...how he felt taking what Jan had started, with that song they both had just loved...and add all the funny sounds, etc., to give Jan some more smiles....

Now, seeing that 45 here...that's cool.  (i know, i know.....I certainly should have noticed all this before....I also didn't realize how Dean had put out "Summertime, Summertime" with "California Lullaby" in July and August!!....i swear i did not know that!....and three times?! no less!  I only thought he did "Save For a Rainy Day" much later than that very summer.....i really do think that "California Lullaby" was an important song.

Yeah, when my buddy gave this to me neither one of us even noticed that it was only the one song since he has four or five copies of the color-label single and all of the others have Louisiana Man on th B-side. The only other info on the record is in the run out groove which reads; ML.7950.s, with a single letter H 180 degrees from that.
