Lossless audio
« on: June 15, 2021, 08:20:38 AM »
One of the minor themes in this message board over the years has been the way Jan and Dean's music has lost out as a result of compression issues on CDs and streaming. I had and still have almost all the vinyl albums and singles but inevitably I moved to CD and now most often listen when driving around using Apple music. (I have uploaded all my collection including the Collectors series that obviously did not have a commercial release.

The distinction between the rich and deep vinyl versions and the CDs etc is stark. Apple now have 'lossless' audio and I listened today to the Dead Man's Curve album using this. I wondered if anyone else had tried it?

It still doesn't match vinyl but I would say it improved the sound quality. Maybe it was wishful thinking - I hope not.

We were hoping for a digital version of Second Wave without the compression loss. Dare we hope that this will happen and that better still all Jan's productions will have a decent rerelease. Maybe a digital box set?

Hi Surferbee, for years i ve said jan and dean on vinyl along with jan mono production, has to be the best way to hear them, never been a cd fan, i ve wanted second wave on an lp, jan is on the same level,as phil spector, and brian wilson, and he doesnt get any credit in the music world.
