Popsicle lp
« on: June 27, 2021, 08:45:38 AM »
With unreleased tracks in the vaults, why did liberty not use them, instead of songs already released. I understand the vol 3, but popsicle could have been a better album had unreleased tracks used. Everyone gone to the moon, time and space, i m sure theres more tracks. To me its a mixture of ride the wild surf and little old lady lps.

From the choice of cover art!!!!!!! To the odd selection of tracks, this was a very odd album. I'm from the UK and the album wasn't released over here. I found it in a vinyl record store in London. I had to do a double take as I thought I had picked up a kid's sing along album!

Given Popsicle had made the charts as a single, it seems a real throw away!

I don’t think Liberty could use Time and Space. But maybe previous songs not on albums like Freeway Flyer and Someday. I think Popsicle was the same as the original version

When the albums were released on cd, Both Jan and Dean should have said , we want to update the cover, by allowing Dean to do it, how he felt it should have been done. I do love the idea of freeway flyer on the album.

I feel bad for Jan & Dean, seeing how they had to put up with that cover. No disrespect to the little girl, but I’m not sure if Dean had the authority to step in, he would have put a halt to it. Liberty and J&D were at odds against each other at that time. Being their last album, and not on good terms with the guys leaving, Liberty kind of gave it to them with this ridiculous cover.

Yep maybe Mark would know about Time and Space. I know it wasn’t a Jan Berry production. I’m not sure Liberty would have any rights to it.

I hate to admit this but I like the cover. It had a sunshine pop feel when that was popular

that would make sense, with jan contracted with producing jan and dean records.
