Dean Torrence Interview Talk Radio UK
« on: August 15, 2017, 07:11:42 AM »
Hi All

An interesting interview with Dean on UK's Talk Radio. Ian Lee has been a long time fan. I didn't know that Jan had done the string arrangement for Lullaby in the Rain from Save for a Rainy Day. Dean said that track was originally set for their film - presumably Easy Come Easy Go.
Dean continued to claim that he contributed as a writer to some songs  - unnamed - but that he has no regrets at not getting royalties. A little bit about Barbara Ann and his album covers and quite a bit on Batman. Not sure if the link will work internationally.

i always wondered if jan had any input on save for a rainy day., so why wasnt jan given credit,

I d love to see any sheet music or scores for this track, maybe if this is still in jan collection ,at his house, would be great to have a brand new version with jans arrangent and dean vocals from the original track,

Wow!!  Well ...haven't gone to the link, but this is absolutely amazing!!!!   Treasures from Dean O as anticipated.

And Jason--you are treasured! ...we go back ...many of us on here do, but it's something.  I love to hear from you--your input, and Stephen, Rockin Gran, Joseph, Phil and more!!

Question for mark. Just listened to california lullaby, there's violins on this track, its track 3 stereo on sfard cd, Do you have any info for this in jan files, about any arrangment.

It's detailed in my book. The string session was led by George Tipton in June 1966. Unfortunately for Dean, he wasn't authorized to book sessions or produce music for Jan & Dean, and Jan's account was billed for it. This session, and Dean's subsequent self-releases using the Jan & Dean name, led to Screen Gems completely shutting down Dean's effort to use the name for new music after Jan's car accident. Screen Gems killed Dean's J&D Record Co. label endeavor.

Since he wasn't allowed to use the Jan & Dean name, Dean issued "Vegetables" under a new band name . . . The Laughing Gravy.
