New Jan & Dean Studio Gallery
« on: July 09, 2011, 07:42:01 pm »

There's a new image gallery on the main site . . .

Studio Gallery:
http://www.jananddean-janberry.com/studio/studio-gallery.html

This area will feature original lyric sheets, music charts, and other items from Jan Berry's personal collection.

More will be added over time.

Enjoy . . .

This is fascinating stuff. I wondered if there was any Dead Man's Curve material - that would be interesting.

Yeah, there's "Dead Man's Curve" material. I'll post an example.

I'm thinking it could have been an inside joke.  "Bateman" (Batman) is misspelled twice, both in writing and in graphic text.

....oh yeah!  (my vote!)  and wasn't there a bunch of other ones like that on these great Jan & Dean papers?  ...it's his usual style when you read his priceless, loved, so-enjoyed! album notes

Notice the song listing for the "Drag City" LP at the bottom of the lyrics.  Does NOT match the released LP.  Were some of these suggestions, works-in-progress, alternate titles... unreleased songs?

It's possible that some of these were works in progress . . . but no evidence of unreleased songs among the surviving music charts.

Bill Pitman definitely played on "Dead Man's Curve."

Well, I take it back!! . . . At least one of the songs listed on the document (posted in the gallery) was indeed recorded.

"Gonna Hustle You" — Western Recorders tape log, 1963.

Click through . . . lyrics are on the back side. Compare the handwriting to the alternate lyrics for "Surf City" in this gallery:

Jan Berry — Studio Gallery

Also added . . . original music score cover for "Dead Man's Curve," 1964.

Enjoy . . .
