DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Re: The 1977 Re-recordings.

The word I use for the 1977 re-recordings is "chirpy".  It is missing a voice in a lower register to fill out the background vocals.  Hmmm...who would THAT be?

I can do without the re-recordings of the hits.

However, I really liked the new recordings of the fifties songs on the original LP.  "I Only Have Eyes For You" is outstanding.  I may be mistaken, but it sounds to me like Jan is singing on this!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Re: Why do you enjoy Jan & Dean?

I like the production values that Jan brought to the table, especially where it pertained to his instrumental and vocal arrangements.  Beyond that, it is the spirit of fun that pervades their records.  I always have a smile on my face after listening to their songs.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Re: Favorite Jan vocal

I agree with Surferbee that Folk & Roll is a showcase for Jan's singing talent.  It covers all the bases: gentle ballads, rock & roll, and protest songs with mock angst. (I will also note that Dean does a great job on Yesterday and the duo sings great on Turn Turn Turn.)

Out of Jan & Dean's Top 40 era, I like "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena" and "Popsicle".

From the albums, Jan sings great on "Summer Means Fun" and "I Gotta Drive".

The TAMI Show / Re: Jan's comments at TAMI concert.

The comment by Jan that is truly eerie in the TAMI show is the joke about how Dean isn't a very good driver and barely makes it into his driveway.  Somewhat ironic given what happened shortly thereafter.

I would like a complete box set of their original recordings through April 1966, including any unreleased songs or studio out takes that can be found.  The sessionography is a close second.  After that, a good compilation of material from Phase II of their career.
