DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / 1966 concert
« on: April 09, 2019, 10:20:38 AM »
Someone posted on FB a story that he remembers a concert in April of 66. Jan and Dean with the Markets. He said only 100 people went. That surprises me. I know Jan and Dean were on a down turn right before the accident but they were only a year and a half removed from huge success and had a few top 30s in between. I guess kids had short memories back then

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / fun question about the movie "Christine"
« on: March 18, 2019, 12:31:14 PM »
I've watched this movie several times. But this weekend it played and I caught something I've never noticed before. For those of you who don't know, Christine is about a car that possesses it's owner. Whenever a 50's song plays, it commences killing someone or whatever. lol

It never plays a Jan and Arnie or Jan & Dean song, but the lead character's name is Arnie and he is dating Leigh (pronounced Lee).

Could that be the director or writers way of including Jan and Arnie (Jenny Lee)???

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Jeanette Get Your Hair Done
« on: February 13, 2019, 06:33:26 AM »
Another question and attempt to keep this board active. LOL In the video below, Jan Berry has clearly written Jeanette in 1958 for (I would assume) Jan and Arnie. It appears that Jan pretty much had this thing written before Dean came into the picture. So why did Dean get writers credit?

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Clementine
« on: February 05, 2019, 04:46:55 AM »
I'm curious as to why Jan & Dean got writers credit for Clementine. I know they may have changed some lyrics. But the music seems different too. It's the only rocking version of that song that I've heard.
Were they getting credit for changing the music too?

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / what is the deal with Sidewalk Surfin
« on: November 19, 2018, 07:54:46 AM »
First of all, I love what Jan did with this song. It's a great production and an improvement on the BB album cut. But with that said, it was barely a Top 25 record and it plays on oldies stations about as much as Surf City and Little Old Lady. It plays more than DMC. which is crazy! It plays much more than Drag City and Honolulu lulu, which are Top 10 songs.

So what's the deal? Why so much attention for a song that was barely top 25 and Jan and Dean's 10th biggest hit?

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Little Old Lady from Catahoula-new video
« on: August 14, 2018, 11:03:03 AM »
I wanted to share my new video of this Jan and Dean parody.
Notice at the very end before the credits. You may recognize what we do is very similar to the end of the Jan and Dean Surf City video from 1963. lol

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Jan and Dean on Beach Boys Sirius XM station
« on: July 18, 2018, 04:58:27 AM »
Recently, the BB station has played Mighty GTO and Freeway Flyer. They usually just play the songs with Wilson involvement. Any idea why they played those 2 songs?

I can't wait for the new Capital release of the Philharmonic Orchestra backing the Beach Boys hits. But don't forget who came up with this concept in 1965!!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Respect??
« on: May 15, 2018, 06:57:17 AM »
I know I shouldn't over think this, but Deadman's Curve is starting to get air time on a couple of classic rock XM stations. Deep Tracks and Tom Petty radio. Other artists are Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, etc.
Not bad!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Lookin for Boys
« on: April 20, 2018, 04:55:37 AM »
I just ordered my copy. This CD has released the Pixie song "I'm Dying to Give my Love to you". I'm as excited as I was for Filet of Soul. I think this song shows Jan's talents as writer, arranger, and producer before he met Brian. Aspects of Jan's production of this song show up on later Jan & Dean recordings. It also gives insight into what Jan wrote on Deadman's Curve. The intro for sure, but also the background girls singing is similar to the chorus on DMC.

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / April 12th
« on: April 12, 2018, 06:35:14 AM »
52 years ago! Jan crashed his car into a parked truck. Although it ended Jan & Dean as hit making artists, his music was still heard in the Mamas and the Papas, The Turtles, the Grass Roots, etc.

Deadman's Curve forever!

RIP Jan

I'd like to know your favorite Jan and Dean Top 40 hit that wasn't a top 10

I'll go with Ride the Wild Surf. ( had this one come out a year earlier, it would have been top 10)

Favorite Jan and Dean Top 100 that wasn't Top 40

I'm going to say Tennessee (but this changes frequently)

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Rare and scratchy records
« on: January 17, 2018, 06:56:52 AM »
I listened to a podcast about Jan and Dean on this site. It was actually very good but he said a couple of things that i question. He said Brian Wilson co produced Surf City uncredited and that he sang background on Little Old Lady. I see no evidence of those claims.
