I wonder if the movie "dead man's curve" shows the truth in this case (Jan proposing to do a lip sync act). After all, it wasn't very truthful on other occasions, so why believe it now?

I read on the sleeve of a J&D double album that "Jenny Lee" was recorded on a self-built tape recorder.

BTW, is it true that Jan had an IQ of 200? And I thought I was bright (153)... :o

No, Jan had lots of help and support in the early and mid-'70s . . . Lou Adler being at the top of the list (with Ode Records and A&M). Also Hal Blaine and various Wrecking Crew members, plus Joan Jacobs and guys like Jim Pewter and Alan Wolfson.
And don't forget the help he got from Dean!!!

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Jan recorded an incomplete song (or not?)
« on: January 07, 2010, 01:29:12 PM »
In the movie "Dead Man's Curve" Jan goes back into the studio after his accident. We see him singing "little lovely lady, really love her, she's my baby" etc (or rather: we see Richard Hatch doing it). Then in the middle of the song he stops and leaves.

Did that really happen?

Peter and Karen only sang on "Like A Summer Rain," that's it.
Don't you mean RICHARD and Karen?

Whenever I try to read the old board I end up here (with no possibility to read old posts).

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Who participated in "save for a rainy day"?
« on: January 04, 2010, 09:27:12 AM »
On the old forum I mentioned the fact that I had just purchased the cd mentioned above. And I also said that Dean did all the vocal parts on it. But then someone said that Karen Carpenter also sang on it. I listened to it again (very carefully) but I can't hear her voice anywhere. So who is right? Dean will certainly know, so if anyone can ask him, I'd appreciate it.

I got mine from Cosmox at a lower price. However, it's not the Japanese version.

Foul play, obviously... otherwise J&D would have won, right?

I wouldn't recommend Ebay to anyone; I know about some very dirty tricks they play >:(

Guess I've been lucky. I've used e-bay for more than 10 years with no real problems.   I've bought several Jan & Dean items there.
Maybe that's the difference between the American Ebay and the European versions. When Ebay took over Ibazar, the first thing they did was exclude some users, sometimes for the wrong reason. Then they said: if you think we shouldn't exclude you, write to this email... When I did, my mail returned as undeliverable. So we were not given any possibility to defend ourselves. Well, in that case: screw Ebay! There are more (and better) sites to sell your goods.

I've already seen it. Looks great, but I'd rather have the possibility to use the mouse-wheel for scrolling...

DON'T YOU JUST KNOW IT / Who is Susan Torrence?

I saw this name on the inlay of a cd with J&D-songs, re-recorded in the 80s or 90s. All the people who sang on it were mentioned... but who is Susan Torrence? Is she Dean's wife, sister or daughter? I can't find the answer anywhere.
