"Hawaii" Chords
« on: September 18, 2016, 01:54:21 PM »
I've always loved this song, and finally got myself a copy of the very rare 45 last week.  I took some time to figure out the chords, and I thought I'd share it with any fellow musicians out there.  The amount of key changes in this song is absolutely crazy/brilliant, and the middle section that sounds more minor than major is an absolute highlight.  I see that Jill Gibson shares a writing credit with Jan... considering the rather unusual musical structure of "It's As Easy As 123", I see a common thread here.  Love it!

Lemme see what I can do.  My brain hears a lot of "sus4" chords in there.

Okay, here it is.  If you check out the "alternate backing track" version, track 29 on the CD, you'll hear there are actually two guitars and a bass guitar that play rather independently of one another.  I've tried to incorporate elements of all three into these chords.  It makes things a little complicated on the guitar, but more of the music is there.

GIRL, YOU'RE BLOWIN' MY MIND
(Jan Berry - Steve Gaines - Paul Freese)

INTRO: (not on all versions)
A  A/E  A/Ab A/E  F#m  E

A
Flusterations hang up the day
A
Troubles come my way
Dsus4   D            E9         E
Hidden feelings darkness finds
Dsus4         D                E9
Nighttime's one big grind
     E                 A  A/E  A/Ab  F#m  E
I'm blowin' my mind

A
I'm sacked out most of the day
A
I just can't make it no way
Dsus4   D            E9         E
I'm nowhere till we make love baby
Dsus4   D            E9         E
That's when I unwind
                                      A  A/E  A/Ab A/E  F#m  E
Girl, you're blowin' my mind

D
I see blazin' colors flashin' 'cross my ceilin'
A
I can't let go, this universe is reelin'
Dsus4                            D
Now don't you dig the same thing that I'm feelin'?
A                                                                E
Now don't you know the kind of glow I'm revealin'?

A
I'm walkin' 'round in a daze
A
I see the world through a haze
       Dsus4          D              E9         E
But when you're right here by my side
     Dsus4   D               E9
A different guy you'll find
                   E                A  A/E  A/Ab  A/E  F#m  E
Girl, you're blowin' my mind

D
I see blazin' colors flashin' 'cross my ceilin'
A
I can't let go, this universe is reelin'
Dsus4                            D
Now don't you dig the same thing that I'm feelin'?

Shane, could you pull through for me again and try to figure out the chords for either "It's As Easy As 123" or "Surfer's Dream" ? You're the best man!

Sorry, I haven't checked in here in a long time!  I found this site with the chords for "1,2,3".  It's actually pretty close.  Forget the chord diagrams, check out the moving "crawl" of chords at the bottom of the screen and it works better.  And ignore most of the Ab chords in the verses, they are wrong.  I wonder if someone put this together, or if the computer program itself tries to listen for the chords.

The structure of the song is just odd... I love it.  Jill Gibson is a talented songwriter.
