On May 14,1984 Jan Berry came to the small East Texas town where I grew up.  Imagine my surprise when I saw this advertised in the paper.  I wish I had told Jan when I met him that Elvis had played this same auditorium in 1955.  The article is in two parts because my scanner isn't big enough.

I've interviewed a number of the guys who were on the road (in the band) with Jan in the late '70s and early '80s. Plus, there's a lot of documentation on Jan's  solo tours . . . interesting stuff.

Jan's touring story from that era, on the club circuit, goes well beyond Papa Doo Run Run and the Bel-Air Bandits.

It sure was cool to hear "That's The Way It Is."

Yep . . . Jan's solo single "That's the Way It Is" had come out in 1977 on A&M, and he played it live on the road with Aloha, and various other band members.

Those were national tours.
